how they represent themselves probably isn't a lie for them. that is to say i won't assume bad faith on their part until i feel it's warranted

federation is socially complex, and i can understand an implementer feeling like it's an anti-feature

also, i've seen a lot of people burn themselves out here. if cohost works, they'll be lessons for everyone on the way forward.

i'm waiting to see what happens when they need more resources.

a lot of what can happen on more well funded platforms is you can taylor the user experience to so novice users can almost tutorial level their way through it.

it still feels like most masto user have more sophistication than my mom, for instance.

i think saying people don't want to learn is simplifing things a little
