So late Wednesday night USA time* the mastodon dot social admin dropped a very different web interface based on the contractor-designed iOS app. In my opinion it looks okay in single-column mode but REAL bad in "advanced" mode.

@noracodes fwiw i don't see this as a zero sum game. activitypub isn't going away, and cohost will have growing pains.
how they represent themselves probably isn't a lie for them. that is to say i won't assume bad faith on their part until i feel it's warranted
federation is socially complex, and i can understand an implementer feeling like it's an anti-feature
also, i've seen a lot of people burn themselves out here. if cohost works, they'll be lessons for everyone on the way forward.

i'm waiting to see what happens when they need more resources.
