i learned tonight that there are companies that turn cremated remains into pretty memorial stones, and if i weren't already set on a green burial I'd absolutely want to be made into a cool rock after i die

@metapianycist yeah there's the remains-into-synthetic-gemstones folks too, and also the remains-into-nutrient-pellets-for-plants folks

when I die I want to become a germanium

@fluffy I'm curious about the nutrient pellets. do they use cremated remains to make them, and add fertile material? bc cremains are biologically inert. one of the reasons i want to have a green burial is so my body will decompose the fastest and provide nutrients directly to plants and subterranean organisms.

@fluffy also i hate the portmanteau "cremains" but i hate it less than "ashes," bc cremated remains are bone fragments with trace elements in proportions unique to every person, not at all like the ash left over from burning wood in a campfire.

@metapianycist yeah I have no idea about the actual chemistry involved. I mean really the best burial is a natural one in like a cotton shroud or the traditional Jewish plain wooden coffin with no nails or liner

death and decomposition

@fluffy no coffin or casket for me, i want my body placed directly in the soil to speedrun decomposition

re: death and decomposition

@metapianycist Yeah the traditional cotton shroud is basically that.
