The DWP have taken £1000 p/m away from us because I have student loans. Loans that we'll have to pay back and have been spent on things I need for my course. We covered Nov, but we'll have nothing for Dec. We still need around £600 to cover everything

Lb: stressed about rent and bills which are due around the 12th. If anyone can help us out with anything that would be amazing. I also have a chance at a job over Christmas so we hopefully should be okay by the end of the month if I get it 🤞 but right now everything is up in the air

Our Universal Credit statement went up today and our entire payment is £167 again. It's what I expected, but still a bit of a gut punch, especially as we should be getting about twice that, but they're clawing back overpayments and an advance.

It's so incredibly fucked up that the government considers student loans to be income equivalent to wages. They're fucking LOANS, it's in the name. Plus the fact that student expenses aren't taking into account at all. It's just "Hey, we're replacing your poverty level income with loans and you're gonna have to find room in your budget for books and shit."

I'm afraid I have to ask for help. @goblins and I are in dire straits (dire gays?) and we need to put the begging bowl out again.

For those who don't know us well, we are a poor, disabled trans couple. Rune started a degree-level course back in September, in an attempt to improve our situation, and in the UK that means getting student loans to cover the cost of the course and for living expenses. Previously, we had been on benefits.

We knew that we were going to lose some of benefit income, but we didn't realise that it would be the vast majority of it. As of November, over £1000 per month has been cut, leaving us around £150 per month. The student loans (which will have to be paid back) should cover most of the shortfall, but we'd already had to spend a large chunk on books, equipment and travel.

The result is that, while we were able to cover everything for November, we have no money for living costs in December. We're trying to raise £1000 to cover what we've lost and are currently about a quarter of the way to that goal.

I know this is a tough time for a lot of people with the pandemic and an expensive time of year at the best of times, but if you could boost this toot and maybe donate what you can afford, we would really appreciate it.

Too many people think of gender as a series of boxes that people are sorted into. Thinking of it as lots of boxes is better than just two, and accepting that people can move from one box to another is better than thinking they're fixed, but it's still sorting people into boxes.

Gender should be like a name badge at a convention. It's a tool to communicate and find common ground with others. You can hang it from a funky lanyard or put stickers on it and spot people with similar badges to hang out with. It shouldn't be limiting or defined by other people.
