@Elizafox coming back to this because the community I hang with here is *very*--integrated, shall we say, between furry, otherkin, therian, and others, with minimal friction, and that's been my experience generally; but last night I asked a group of mixed furry-esque folks about it, and was assured that there's that kind of history. I just somehow *missed all of it*.
@Elizafox I mean, I was (intimately) familiar with the "furry fans vs. furry lifestylers" flamewar, and it was always clear that therians/otherkin were on the "lifestyler" side of that divide, but I never experienced therian *vs.* otherkin hostility first-hand. I'm sorry that you have, and can only say that I don't come from that background. :/
@Elizafox to my eternal shame, for a while there I hung out with the Burned Fur crew, and yeah... I've seen the "prurience police" in full uniform, with the boots and flamethrowers, and been just *boggled* by the cognitive dissonance that needs to be maintained to justify it.
@Elizafox yeeeeeep. seems to be the typical curve for people who make authoritarianism their fetish. >___<
fandom stuff (-)
@Elizafox dunno if it's the same group, but a local bunch of sexuality police "WE'RE JUST IN THIS FOR THE CARTOON ANIMALS HONEST" held a "squeaky clean" furry convention here a couple of weeks ago. you may have heard of it; they had the overwhelming public support of ~32~ attendees--which is less than the number of people that attended the not-convention #Bandaza2017 last night. so if it's any consolation, the weirdos are winning by a long shot. ;)
