volunteering was very dull today--only four birds in the ward, a squirrel in the nursery with an injured leg, and the usual long-term critters and passel of waiting-to-be-released assorted birds (mostly owls and gulls). I ended up carting loads of gravel out of the small mammal enclosure and then said "argh my back" and skipped out early.
on the other hand I saw a red-breasted sapsucker there! off in the trees, not in the ward, heh. it's much easier to spot birds with all the leaves down...
