we drove quite a long while, then there was discussion whether the food place in question would even be open because it's a pancake place and it was nighttime, but once we found it it turned out that yes, it was open.
the theme was that you'd get a big paper/styrofoam cup, put fries in the bottom, put pancake toppings on top of them (??? not in a cup or anything, just... drizzled on the fries *bleah*), and then when the pancakes were done they'd go on top of the cup like a lid.

I ordered my pancakes and was happily picking toppings when it suddenly occurred to me to question whether this place was gluten-free. I'd thought it was, that was the whole reason for going out here in the first place, but I wasn't seeing any signs or anything indicating that it was. and just as I was hitting peak uncertainty I woke up, choking on my own drool, because THOSE PANCAKES LOOKED AND SMELLED AMAZING. ;______;
