@thefishcrow It varies by state. In CA 10 years ago, it took me 4 months, cost like $400 in court and related fees, and I had to fill out a whole packet of forms in triplicate. >..<

@mawr @thefishcrow I don't remember for sure, but I seem to recall that in Washington, when I got married there was a "so you're changing your name right?" part on the forms, and I put the name I wanted instead of the name they expected, and that was that. yay taking advantage of heteronormative society... :P
