I have made a long study of the origin & habits of the mountain #crab. Their life history is a beautiful & extraordinary one.
Aeons ago these tired old peaks were boiling cauldrons & the ocean much closer, magma bored long channels to the sea. Little crabs found their way to lakes in the mountain roots. Their habit had been to hold anemones for defence–but here stones had to serve. They scraped clefts & furrows for themselves. Over time the strongest–with the sharpest weapons–prevailed.

@green we had a bunch of 100% green leafed trees drop all their leaves overnight because it hit 15F suddenly, but the trees weren't even ready to change color :< i've never seen that happen as much as it did this year, it definitely feels like a new thing going on :(
@green we've had a lot of treefall this season, too, since the climate has been pretty antagonizing to tree integrity :/ i love living in a city with a lot of big, old trees, but it certainly gets hazardous
