pol? the socioeconomic systems we build into our tech
Today a student asked me what virtual worlds would be like if they were communist instead of having tech libertarianism built into them á la Second Life, and I was like, “can’t answer about virtual worlds because as far as I know no one’s done it, but let’s talk about communist social media and Mastodon!”
Am just feeling so energized by demonetized social media that I’ve become a personal and professional evangelist for it, sorry not sorry.

@ErikaAlpert there used to be a game called glitch that was sort of like that. It was very strongly cooperative anyway. It probably wouldn't count as communist.
Then the people who made it went on and make slack instead, I think it was a bad deal.

@inmysocks I mean, I’m not super sure what the difference is between “strongly cooperative” and “communist,” I’m not being super specific about the definition. Certainly not limiting it to state communism.
But afaik Slack is mostly used for workplace communication so.... yeah, seems like a downgrade. Boo!
