I suspect that @Gargron has just given up on any sort of anti-harassment for mastodon.

The newest release candidate has an update that will let people know they are blocked when they view a profile.

This is fucking basic shit, you don't let harassers know if they are having an effect, or if they are being heard or not. Why the fuck should someone I block get to know I blocked them? It just means they know 1) They had some effect and 2) The need to find a new channel for harassment.

seriously, this only helps harassers, no one else, and it is entirely at the expense of those who are getting harassed.

This sort of thing is why I keep arguing that mastodon shouldn't get credit for being 'anti-harassment', the lead dev is actively working against it.

And yes, it is specifically @Gargron, the pull request for this was by him.

It is like watching a race to the bottom in terms of being terrible about anti-harassment features.

It looks like this has been resolved. A pull request that reverts the changes got merged.
