@mastohost Hi there!
Could you start an instance from a backup? Scaleway just ate my server.
@mastohost Hmm. I'll have to get it upgraded first, then. Thanks for the info!
@mawr what version were you on? if it's an older version that doesn't require multiple steps, I should be able to do it.
@mastohost I believe the last version we were running was 2.3.0.
@mawr I remember that v2.3.2 had an extra step because of duplicate users but it shouldn't be a problem, if you want to try a direct upgrade from v2.3.0 to v2.4.0 and see if it works, I am ok with that.
@mastohost I'm totally game-- and I'd be happy to send some extra cash your way for the effort. :D
How would you like to proceed?
@mawr How large is your media storage?
Can I access it remotely to do the import?
What format is you pg_dump? Do you have a custom pg_dump or a way to get it?
@mastohost All media storage totals up to probably something just short of 2GB uncompressed, but I suspect that's mostly cached public images from other instances; I was using Amazon S3 for image hosting. BTW-- can I keep hosting my own images off-site? It's not a dealbreaker if no, but It'd be neat to keep all the images live. ^^
Yes, I can host it on my house server for HTTPS download.
My pg_dump is just a .sql file; 297MB uncompressed.
The whole thing's in a tgz file that's 1.6GB i size.
@mawr Well, if you prefer to continue using AWS, that is fine by me. One less thing for me to worry about :) you will have to send me the auth details but that is fine.
I can also pull directly from AWS and host them on my end, up to you.
As for the pg_dump, I would need a custom pgdump, done like this:
pg_dump -v -Fc mastodon_production > /tmp/db.dmp
Do you have any way to do this custom pd_dump?
@mastohost I'd have to import the existing dump to a new Postgres server so I can dump it back out again in the requested format. I should be able to do that.
@mawr that would be very helpful.
If you can do that, just go to https://masto.host/pricing/ pick a plan and we continue arranging the move via email :)
@mawr Sure it's possible, do you want a dedicated plan or a shared plan? If you have the backup from a v2.4.0 I can import from the backup, if you were using another version or not the main Mastodon Development for, then I can only do it with a dedicated plan.
