Improved graphics fidelity does [almost] nothing for a great many video games., at least once we started grasphing photorealism.
Music and SFX as a whole I feel are a more vital interface for flaring the imagination.
Pacing and level design have a much greater impact on the player's experience of the game.
Use graphics that convey more than just "wow, pretty."

@IrisKalmia This is a far more popular opinion than you might think, tbh. The vast majority of the indie gaming genre's success proves this theory. ♥️
@IrisKalmia Yeah, apologies; that was the wrong term.
I guess I see services like Steam using it as secondary category to the "triple A" games and made the subconscious association instead of recognizing that as a corporate method of subtly keeping the little guys down.
@mawr I feel weird calling "indie" a genre, but yeah.
