Okay so when Twitter dies can we pool money to somehow buy the domain? We could build out the API so all the games and stuff (Nintendo Switch, etc) that talk to it now can still post their content somewhere (like Mastodon) and keep all of that functionality alive.
@Ronflaix I don't know if that'd be a great plan honestly; I think that'd get overloaded quickly. I think it would work best as a pointer/redirect service to point at whichever instance your account lives on. That way you could post from your Twitter enabled device to any Masto instance you like! ^^
@abbenm I think that would very quickly grow to an unmanageable size. I'd recommend just an API end-point for Twitter integrations that can redirect content to other Mastodon instances. That way you can post to your preferred instance. ^^
@pnathan Oh heck I'd never want to actually run a public Twitter clone. Just provide an API endpoint so connected devices can still put their content somewhere. It'd require folks to re-register accounts of course, and it wouldn't be hosting content for public consumption, so I think the overhead would be massively reduced.
@mawr just make it a mastodon instance
