Announcement: We're moving! Not physically, of course, this is always happening in Seattle, though our choice of venue may change as our group size does. No, this move is virtual, between mastodon instances.

So! For future meetup news, please go follow @theseattlemeetup . The migration will be slow and gentle, and I'll make sure not to leave anyone behind, but please pass around links to that account in the future instead of this one. Thanks!

The move is for a variety of reasons - the name is perhaps a little childish, though 'a little childish' does describe the feeling of the meetups pretty well. However, the meetups aren't about me, the person running them, they're about the people and place, so my name doesn't need to be in there – and it's not spelled that way any more, to boot.

Also, while Awoo.space has graciously hosted us so far, it is strongly themed in a way the meetups aren't.

Furries are *certainly* welcome, and make up a large portion of our population, but that's not the focus. Nor is tech, nor are queer identities, nor is any specific set of fandoms.

Awoo.space has a set of federation rules that make the load on the admins easier, but allow false-negatives in a way I'd hate to see someone get blocked from attending because of them.

Plus, the admin of toot.cafe is a regular at the meetups, so if anything goes wrong, we can air our grievances in person!

Announcements will go out from both accounts for a few months, but people following this account won't see messages from the other one. After people have had a chance to move over, the announcements will come purely from here, and followers of just the awoo account will see 'please migrate your follow' messages. Eventually there will be a full redirect migration, but hopefully by then we'll have all the stragglers sorted out anyway.

Awoo Space

Awoo.space is a Mastodon instance where members can rely on a team of moderators to help resolve conflict, and limits federation with other instances using a specific access list to minimize abuse.

While mature content is allowed here, we strongly believe in being able to choose to engage with content on your own terms, so please make sure to put mature and potentially sensitive content behind the CW feature with enough description that people know what it's about.

Before signing up, please read our community guidelines. While it's a very broad swath of topics it covers, please do your best! We believe that as long as you're putting forth genuine effort to limit harm you might cause – even if you haven't read the document – you'll be okay!
