One of the reasons a lot of us OG fedi folks came over was to get away from constant promo posts on Twitter and FB. At the same time, we want indie creators especially to be able to support themselves, which means we need to promote our stuff.
So some etiquette has evolved around self promotions. I’m gonna share the basics, and then explain how I approach promoting my work for folks who are following me. The rest of this thread is going unlisted and under a CW.

A federated time line is kind of like a tin can on a string from one tree house to another. Your treehouse (server) decided the kids in the other treehouse (like awoo . Space) are neat, and they want to hear what they want to say. So they threw them a tin can, and now they can hear anything someone says loud enough.
