@trwnh@boots@ghost That does nothing to explain the need to cling on to remote media for all eternity instead of, say, automatically cleaning old remote media and re-caching it should the need arise.
@Jo@trwnh @boots@cybre.space @ghost@anticapitalist.party Matrix allows both remote media content and remote messages to be purged locally and requested back from the remote homeserver on-demand. You're saying Mastodon does NOT do this yet? That's pretty risky...
@shaderphantom@trwnh@boots@ghost There's a rake task to purge media attachments but it purges ALL media attachments up to a given period (before the last 7 days by default) and it has to be autmated by a chron job.
Even worse, after the fact, it does nothing to retrieve media from old posts on demand so past toots end up with blank squares where media was present. 😕
Awoo.space is a Mastodon instance where members can rely on a team of moderators to help resolve conflict, and limits federation with other instances using a specific access list to minimize abuse.
While mature content is allowed here, we strongly believe in being able to choose to engage with content on your own terms, so please make sure to put mature and potentially sensitive content behind the CW feature with enough description that people know what it's about.
