huh... no, it's actually the GLES2 video driver that is very very VERY slow on macOS for some reason. GLES3 is fine.

oh.

the real cause is rendering/quality/2d/gles2_use_nvidia_rect_flicker_workaround

which apparently does not exclusively enable for nvidia

and severely impacts tilemap performance

@shaderphantom OpenGL in general on macOS is very inconsistent and I hate fighting with it.
