musings on ffxiv (spoilers)

1.0 ended with the Warriors of Light failing to stop the Seventh Umbral Calamity, which was symbolic in its own. It coincides with the franchise's lowest point in its history, and a reckoning with which the team had come to terms with. The team invested a lot of labor in bringing the game back from the brink.

5.0 has us returned, stronger than ever, with the lessons of several years in tow to stop the Eighth. It coincides with the strongest point in the game's history in terms of financials, and brings with it a trove of thematic consciousness relevant to today's world.

The game is a product and a service being sold to the benefit of SquareEnix's owners, but it's carrying with it an interesting message, I think.

@Duende@snouts.online Is this some kind of corruption thing?

@fraggle@octodon.social I meant to type emulator, not release

Doom 64 rerelease but they use an older version of the 1964 n64 release and it sucks

i will get to 80 tonight

(1 full hour later I still haven't gotten through a third of 77)

@fraggle@octodon.social my grazings with the games industry suggests to me this happened because the vast majority of the new talent flowing in is mobile-centric and trained on Unity, and the product leadership that seeps in comes from the mobile market too.

so a producer from that space might think "yeah this seems fine, it'll be easy because everyone we hired has experience in unity"

this is of course very silly. there are dozens of people they could have hired with far more expertise on doom specifically.

@fraggle@octodon.social it is very frustrating, especially when far better jobs have been done on it commericially. it seems bizarre that nerve took this approach and that Bethesda and id seem okay with it.

@fraggle@octodon.social i mean fair enough, lol

@fraggle@octodon.social this isn't accurate -- they ported the original engine to a form usable within Unity, and used Unity as the vehicle to drive each of the ports they released. it is the original game: just running inside Unity.

They have a website too...

They plan to work with Republicans on our Cybersecurity.

it is an absolute shame that bethesda/zenimax are getting the profits from id software's seminal works in this medium.

literally they didn't have to put the bethnet shit in these ports and nobody would have cared about it using unity

hey but apparently the doom 3 bfg port by panic button is pretty good

So I'm gonna be spamming some images involving Amazon, the government, In-Q-Tel, and a bunch of other shit I've been also spamming to Twitter for a while now. Sorry for neglecting y'all!

I've been drawing some connections tho, and I think they spell out important shit for anarchists to see.

what if i just burned away this weekend by repeatedly entering the leveling roulette as whm until i hit level 76 would that be fucked up or what

gotta admit I'm pretty jelly of snouts' ffxiv emoji

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) nothing wrong with me

#2) nothing wrong with me

#3) nothing wrong with me
