The idea that a non-zero sum of people on the internet are bitter, nasty people who will try to harm someone is not an onus on individual public-facing persons to be unreasonably indestructible - it is an onus on the digital community to more earnestly combat bullying.

This isn't even a utopian belief in a perfect internet where all discourse is civil. It is a bare-effort belief in an internet where we refuse to let thoughtless hostility stand, and shouldn't have to work so hard for moderation tools to ensure that this is so.
