@indi I think culture is also a big and unignorable part of it. Like you said in the post we're working as much off of cultural constructs of animals as much as of the animals themselves.
@starkatt I feel most comfortable when I can express my identity, and experience the identities of others, via a symbol set that include animal traits (biological and cultural) as a significant component.
That leaves a huge gaping "WHY?" gap, but it does seem to address the "what." ^.^
I've designed and built my own clock, even.

Related wonderful object: an analog clock displaying current martian solar time. These hang in the control rooms for mars missions at JPL.
I *really* like the idea of intercalary days and am disappointed we get one so infrequently that isn't even very good.
Also I badly need to flush the coolant system anyway. It's rustier than a... really rusty thing.
Looks like the cheapest next step is to replace the radiator cap. If my coolant system isn't holding pressure and is boiling at too low a temperature, that could well explain the creeping overheat to ~220f and then sudden spiking to >250f as coolant boils.
Car is overheating and I can't tell if the alarming levels of coolant loss are a cause or a symptom due to the reservoir boiling over.
Related phrase: social media backscatter, when everyone is talking *about* a breaking news item or post or something but nobody is actually referencing it directly. Happens more on bird site than on here, thankfully.
