Design gripe (hopefully amusing)

"Do you not want us to remove the lack of eating utensils from what your meal does not have?" awoo.space/media/--_RV48EBr3qh

Downside of reading semi-technical works on sociology and psychology is that it seems easy for authors to become *way* too enamored with their own ideas, and it shows in the writing.

TIL: the element cobalt is named after kobolds.

No, really: the compound in which cobalt is most commonly found was called "kobold ore" by miners.

Switching from DuckDuckGo to StartPage as my search engine. DDG is okay but their results just aren't as good as The Goog. Startpage is basically a proxied google search. Slower, but better results and more privacy.

Aw heck yeah, gonna start a new game of Pyre on the True Nightwing difficulty setting.

I hypothesized that the game would read differently if it were harder, and now it's time to see if I was right :)

Todo today:

✔ Round 2 job interview
- Laundry
- Take waste coolant to hazmat
- Car registration probably
- idk read more dev. psych.

One of the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen over Seattle this morning. A cloud deck lit fire from below, and all the buildings of downtown glowing reflections.

Hmm.

Bad question: "does there being so many people who identify with foxes make my identification with them less meaningful?"

Better question: "What is it about foxes that makes it so easy for humans in the cultures I'm in to identify with them?"

I was bad about this. *Most* people are bad about this.

Learning and internalizing nuance genuinely does take time, including exposure to different kinds of people within queer communities.

Request for trans people recently starting out:

When it comes to topics of activism and social justice, please be mindful that there's often a lot more context, history, and nuance to an issue than is immediately obvious. It's easy to be over-zealous.

For at least the first couple years, try to keep this in mind before getting shouty about topics of discourse. This is doubly true when it comes to castigating people or practice, or when you're talking to outside audiences.

My advice for trans people recently starting out:

There's a million and a half ways to deliberately expose yourself to the words and views of people who hate you. Don't.

Reading that shit doesn't make you any better informed, just more hurt and bitter.

"Dread Design" (music for the Pit of Milithe) is pretty atypical of the soundtrack generally, but gosh, those spooky synth hits give me feelings

I thought I'd just listen along while reading, but nah, this is taking enough of my attention that I can't actually focus on the words on the page :D

This also has a lot more in common with the Transistor soundtrack than I realized while playing.

Interestingly, listening to the Pyre soundtrack outside of the context of the game and its worldbuilding, my sensation of what the instrumentation is doing is totally different. For example, I didn't notice the bass guitar as a /thing/ while playing, but listening now it's actually super prominent.

Got me a flu shot. All I had to do was ask the pharmacist "hey, also can I have a flu shot" when I went to pick up my meds.

CDC is recommending everyone get it, so it's a good idea to do that. It's super easy.

Y'all, the Pyre soundtrack is almost two hours long, and if you include the acoustic and alternate versions it's almost four hours of music.

Bleh, need to call my optometrist back but apparently now I don't get cell service even in my backyard :/
