Hi everyone!
Joined back to Fediverse, have been here on and off since the beginning, so familiar with everything.
I'm a software developer. At work, I only use functional programming languages, but in my freetime I tend to write #Rust.
I love popular culture, reading books, watching movies and occasionally playing some video games. I also do #photography but rarely share the pictures online.
I have two cats.
Nice to meet you!
Here, when you get here, it's tempting to follow everyone who said one witty thing when you first see them.
On algorithmically managed sites, you would later find you see less of the people you don't interact with, don't "like" or don't boost. But here they will be in your Home timeline, in chronological order, for good.
Sometimes, they're a great person, but you're a classical music nerd and they're all about basketball and you only intersected that one convo about a local school board.
I want to suggest something to new Fedizens that's a bit contrary to all the enthusiasm you hear.
On Mastodon, you should also UNfollow early, UNfollow often.
This is OK. Your home feed is your living room. Not everyone's gonna be the most comfortable houseguest, even if they were interesting enough to invite in for tea.
You can find them again later, or catch them on your Local or Federated timeline.
The lack of algorithmic curation here means your peace of mind is your responsibility.
@lyncia thanks for letting me know! i'll keep my eyes peeled
Yo, newbies, post whatever the fuck you want. If your server objects, you picked one that was a bad fit for you. There are so many servers. If you want to hang out with folks who are tetchy about the historical reasons SI is no longer called "the metric system", there is literally a server for you. If you hate the letter e and never want to see it. If you love the letter e and only want to see it. So many weird ass fucking servers.
@celesteh boy, what a throwback
@lyncia oh damn nice... i wonder if i can get my hands on physical copies
@Xarph hi what's up
@halcy zom scott
@lyncia wait, radiant silvergun is on switch and nobody told me? i fuckin love that game
#feditips there is no good social media platform. no, not even this one
I wrote an article on #css layers. It's as condensed as possible as all the other guides I saw were over 6000 words. I have #ADHD, that's not gonna work.
So, less than 800 words on this new "feature". What, how and why.
For all the new NSFW artists coming to Mastodon. Remember being elaborate on your content warnings. "NSFW" is just not enough for kinky fetish stuff. Put all of it in the content warnings to prevent unpleasant surprises for other people. Not only helps that filter what people not like, it also helps others who like that stuff find your works.
@hy technically i posted that last night before i went to bed
Also, actually helpful for new users.
Your admin and mods are real people who are posting alongside you.
For elekk folks,
I am not an unknown cloud that punishes from afar.
If you report someone, I get a notification and an email about it. And I handle it when I have a moment.
I can ask you for more info. I can follow up with you.
If you are the one being reported, I can talk to you and walk you through your mistakes.
If you report, I WILL see it. I am here for you.
