If I say 'I'm a shapeshifting trashpanda with superpowers,' nobody goes 'pfft, no you're not.' That choice isn't negatable. Nobody gets to revoke my identity for failing to meet an external parameter. If identity is performative, I can use performance to represent a truer self.

Furry is incredibly important to my identity, because it gives me a way to define myself that isn't impacted by the real-world prejudice I deal with. Nobody is going to strip-search me at an airport because I have 'tanuki-esque features.'
This is something that gets missed when discussing furry culture, but one of the main things that attracts people to it in my experience is the chance to set your own terms for how you want to be seen and treated for people who don't otherwise get that option.
you know those ribbon bars they give you for military accolades so you can wear them on your uniform? they should make those but in different pride flag colors. those would make cool pride swag
i wonder how hard it is to get those custom
memorial day, ptsd + suicide mention
it's memorial day here in the usa
much has been said about remembering lives lost overseas, but i don't like glorifying war. i prefer to use today to remember the veterans who came back with war trauma, didn't get adequate mental health support from the country they fought for, and saw no better option than to take their own lives. those are the real forgotten casualties
