There is over a decade of precedent that Facebook will not have users' best interests as their guiding principle but rather profit margins, if it joins the Fediverse.

We at tech.lgbt have long held the belief that corporation owned instances are a threat to the core of the Fediverse: freedom for users to be themselves and to be a part of their communities. The 2010s saw the loss of online freedom when the majority of the Web was consolidated into a few destinations, and Facebook entering here could lead us back to centralization. Furthermore, NDAs for server admins will constrain our sovereignty online by binding us legally from disrupting their business.

We are not products. We are people, and we do not welcome Facebook in this space.

Mastodon peeps, I need your help with a new-ish user issue!

My home feed is starting to overwhelm me. I don't really want to mute anyone I follow, but I suspect that my best bet is to move everyone to lists, and then read posts from there in smaller, more focused groups. This leaves me with two questions:

1. Am I correct that the proper protocol is to add someone to a list and then filter them from my home feed (so I only see them in their new list home)?

2. Is there any way to add a hashtag (like #Caturday) to a list, or do I need to leave the hashtags I follow in my home feed?

If it helps, I'm currently using ‪@ivory‬ by ‪@tapbots‬.

What I'm listening to today: "Gaia floating in me", Cube

80s samplers had limited resolution— 12 bit DACs, limited sample memory. Early hip hop leaned into this, finding low sample rates gave drums a pleasant crunchy feel. This 2008 MS-DOS tracker jam makes great use of similar limitations, especially at the start where the resolution goes so low it's like a bitcrush effect. Actually, this entire track is incredibly sick. It sounds like a rave in Donkey Kong Country.
