Blah... I just dropped off one of my partners for a 10 hour overnight shift at work... and the whole time home all I can think of is... it's fucking 2017.. the company they work for has and uses literally all of the tools that make this a super easy "work from home" or just oncall coverage time... but "We want someone in the building overnight". Dayshift is working from home though... just want to be like "Really guys? Fuck.... we are handling the holidays with a simple oncall rotation.."

YES!!! MY PROPOSAL TO ALTER OUR ONCALL ROTATION SO THAT ONCALL ONLY GOT PAGED DURING OFF HOURS AND NOT WHILE OTHER PEOPLE ARE THE OFFICE MET WITH UNANIMOUS APPROVAL! Downside... I have to handle pagerduty from 4pm-7pm whether I'm oncall or not..

Upside.. no more being woken up at 5am because someone forgot to downtime a box they were working on!

Oncall rotation completed.... pager still had it's revenge though... 5 hours of sleep... thanks for the page 1 hour before my watch ended.
