you know those ENTP-J/ETCS-3/FAT-32 personality type acronyms people put on dating profiles? i'm considering putting "AUTI-ST personality type" on mine and if anyone gets the joke, i'll marry them

re: morbid / sui joke

@anarchiv yeah that's how i imagine a job interview would go for me at this point in my life

israel, trying to focus on positives

one good thing about living in tlv:

it's 10pm and the streets feel alive, and i can actually find food, and i won't be the only person at a food place that's just about to close

meta: poem (not mine), translation by me

been thinking about this poem a lot lately

i looked around for an english translation but none of the ones i found actually kept the original rhyming pattern, so i tried to make one myself that mostly does 😳

poem (not mine), translation by me

I could only ever speak for myself, by Rachel Bluwstein

I could only ever speak for myself
My world is as narrow as that of the ant,
Even my cargo I carried like her,
Too much and too heavy for shoulders so scant.

And on my way — as her way to the top —
A road lined with pain and a road made of toil,
The hands of the giants, malicious, don't stop,
Such that every advancement I make they may foil.

All my attempts were mocked and made tearful
By hands of the giants and trembling frights.
Why have you beckoned, O beaches of wonder?
Why did you lie to me, O distant lights?

@ZiaMacPine hi! if you use an app it might be different, but on the web ui, theres a button reading "cw" (content warning) under the text box where you type out the posts. it makes a smaller text box appear above, and that's where you type out the cw itself

and then when you post it, people are only gonna see the cw at first, until they click show

re: nutrition, cooking question

@else it might change the flavor of some dishes, and in some... fancier and higher effort stuff (dough, cake, sauces, etc) it might change the consistency/holding-togetherness somehow (and it might not! i've never used bacon grease at all)

but for all of the simple day to day cooking stuff, i think it should be perfectly fine. you can usually fry(?) things in any kind of oil or fat and get very similar results. if you like it then definitely go for it!

as for health: there are currently several competing and conflicting theories regarding whether or not different kinds of fat are good or bad to eat and none have convinced me so far

qualifications: none, but i used to cook a lot and still sometimes do

@anarchiv *looking behind me and then at you, then again behind me from the other side, then at you, then pointing at myself questioningly, like, "wait, you mean me?"*

@anarchiv i tried to google the acronym earlier and couldn't find any answers; but now thanks to your display name i know that my best guess was, after all, wrong,, and that it's not Uet Ass Pussy

historical murder, firearms, israeli sign language

aaaaa wtffffff there's a town in northern israel whose sign is the same as the sign for "mass shooting" because of a terror attack in the 1970s

one of the only survivors was a baby, because their mother hid them. they stayed quiet the entire time and weren't found until later, alive and well, and soon discovered to be deaf.

this name origin story is just...... so quintessentially israeli

explaining the autism joke that's only funny with an israeli accent

you see, it's funny because in hebrew, the "aut" in autism (/otizm/ <אוטיזם>) and the "ott" in ottawa (/otawa/ <אוטווה>) both sound identical, which they don't in my american accent

(though they might, in, like, some obscure rural scottish dialect i don't know of)

autism joke that's only funny with an israeli accent

of course i'm allistic! autism only counts as real autism if it's from the ottawa region of canada. otherwise it's just sparkling general anxiety disorder and selective mutism

everything is always an uphill battle and i wish things got easier for a while
