Work, Virus, Complaining

As of today, my workplace has officially done away with masks.

Temperature screening and "stay six feet apart" are still mandated, despite being useless theater, but actually effective masks? Nah. We apparently don't need those.

I'm more than a little scared, particularly seeing all the fully vaccinated people who have been getting sick lately.

And the possibility of Long COVID, even if asymptomatic.

Our local case count increased 4x over the last two weeks.

I wish I could feel safe at work, but I just don't.

@Phorm Can you still voluntarily wear one?

I still wear mine at work, and am like the only one.

Work, Virus, Complaining

@JulieSqveakaroo Yes, and I absolutely plan to. But I fear it won't help much.

The numbers I've seen indicate that masks help protect other people from you much more than protect you from other people.

Work, Virus, Complaining

@Phorm Yeah, but an extra 10% doesn't hurt, especially on top of the vaccine.

Work, Virus, Complaining

@JulieSqveakaroo Very fair point.

I am just a being of anxiety and fear. And disappointment!

Work, Virus, Complaining

@Phorm Ha!

I come armed with MATHS!!!

Work, Virus, Complaining

@JulieSqveakaroo @Phorm listen to the roo for the roo is wise

Also consider an n95

@Doephin @JulieSqveakaroo

Decent points, and will listen to the sqveaky one.

Got a full two boxes of 3M n95s recently, too. Probably will lean on those more heavily.

@Phorm @JulieSqveakaroo you work with enough noxious shit they're probably good to have on general principle. won't stop gasses and I'm sure there's plenty of chemicals they're contraindicated for but "asshole didn't wash off all the nasty dust" seems like a co worker you would have

Work, Virus, Complaining

@Doephin @JulieSqveakaroo

We tend to go hard when we need respirators for working purposes - Most of the dusts and fumes are handled in ventilated, isolated spaces and hoods, so if we need a chemical/dust mask, we use full face respirators with cartridges. A touch too far for all day use, sadly.

That being said, I think there were n95 stockpiles in our department for people who didn't furnish their own masks in the offices. Maybe I can tap into those as well as my own.

It's a good thought, and I appreciate it 💜
