My youngest sister got married earlier this year. I was not invited. This is something of a bone of contention, as this is the sister I supported financially for the whole first year of the pandemic.

I'm a science fiction author supporting her unpredictably employed mother. I don't have piles of disposable income. But I took care of her.

So yeah, I was not thrilled when I didn't get an invite to the wedding. This is important background, but:

Mom has been going all-out in getting gifts for her new son-in-law.

And all of them have been things like shirts or mugs or whatever that say "I never thought I would have a TOTALLY ROCKING MOTHER-IN-LAW."

Is this...is this normal? That you welcome a new family member by making their holiday all about you?

@seananmcguire I expect the designers of the gifts thought they'd be going To the mother in law not From

but from everything you'be posted about your mom this doesn't surprise me. So, weird but within her standard bounds of weird?

@Doephin @seananmcguire You know, now that you point it out, that makes a lot more sense (gifts *to* the MIL) ... I was puzzling over 'why would you even.'
