the trans bathroom "debate"

So, the overwhelmingly most common justification I've seen behind not allowing trans people to use their preferred bathroom is that doing so will supposedly allow cis male harassers to gain entry into the women's bathroom by "identifying as a woman" and then cause whatever havoc.

The obvious rebuttal to this is that no such harasser is going to be more or less able to do this no matter what sort of gender-related legislation we put forth. Harassment is already a crime.

But another argument I wish were made more often is that this sort of fear is only even comprehensible in the construct of gendered bathrooms—a construct we should do away with.

What if there just *wasn't a women's bathroom to walk into?* What then, harassers?

the trans bathroom "debate"

@imyxh this is certainly the most practical long term solutions (individual cubical bathrooms ftw) but short term the bigot can point out the cost involved which will sway some people.

It's easier and harder to counter to ask why they want men going in women's bathrooms. because trans guys be forced in is better "cover" than anything else if that was actually needed. So it ends up being self defeating AND bigoted
