It's weird to think sometimes that "computer" used to be a job description, not a device.

no other job that we know of has made such a complete transition from job to machine. Some have made a partial transition; words like "dishwasher" can mean either the job or the machine.

@Felthry 'Typewriter' had a couple of decades where it might be the person who types or the machine they type on, too. I think the people became 'typists' before typewriters returned to being niche tools.
