politicsish?
Something I've noticed about a lot of people, especially but not exclusively the more bigoted sort: they seem unwilling to even consider the fact that people who aren't on the same side as them are acting in good faith.
Most people, no matter what ideology they have, do what they do because they think it's the right thing to do. They may be wrong, but the majority of people aren't evil.
Most ideologies have an element in them of wanting to get other people on your side, wanting to get others to share your ideology. This isn't inherently a bad thing! But it is a dangerous thing, as even the people who are wrong feel the need to convince other people to share their ideology, no matter how wrong it may be.
re: politicsish?
@Felthry that said, I do think that some people consider “are we the baddies?” and correct course accordingly, and some do not, but I don’t think that maps cleanly to an ideological group per se
re: politicsish?
@coda Yes, and I'm not saying that it does or doesn't. We've considered it and decided that we're not certain, but as much as we can be we're pretty sure we're doing our best to do good.
re: politicsish?
@coda I can say that we have given thought to that possibility and decided that we're probably the good guys here. But it's more important than people know to realize that what you think is the right thing to do is not going to line up with what others think is right.
