What's the algorithm for determining whether or not mastodon shows you a post from someone you follow that's in reply to someone you don't follow? I've seen it sometimes show it and sometimes not, and I think it has to do with the proportion of people you do follow in the thread.

Does that extend to other posts that mention people? If I were to mention someone in a post without it being a reply to them, would it still show up in everyone else's home column?

@Felthry as far as I can tell:

- if Alice follows Bob, any non-DM post Bob makes that starts with an @ but isn't a reply will appear on Alice's home timeline.
- If Alice follows Bob and Claire, one (or I guess possibly both) of the following two rules pertain (in practice, almost any post which meets the criteria for one rule also does for the other):

a. Any reply Bob posts to a post by Claire will show up on Alice's home timeline.
b. Any reply Bob posts where Claire is the first @ will show up on Alice's home timeline.
