I want to know what people think so: tell me your favorite place names! The ones that really stand out, whether because they're very fitting to the place, or because they have or tell an interesting history, or just because they sound neat
@Felthry there's a side street my family used to pass on the way somewhere called LaDuke Drive, but the way it's written in all-caps on the street sign has the A smaller than the rest of the letters and I got such a kick out of seeing it
@packbat So it was written like "LᴀDUKE ᴅʀ", you mean?
@packbat yeah, we've seen that a few times too!
@Felthry it was so unexpected to my, like, pre-teen brain, I love it.
@Felthry Otterbourne is clearly the best place name
@Felthry Colorado is full of so many great named places.
The best street in Denver Metro is Jackass Hill Rd, which a friend told me the history is apparently someone saved their donkeys by bringing them to the top of the hill during a flood.
Some of the abandoned but still marked town names are fantastic, such as Agate (you passed through an A-frame gate to enter the town) and La Junta (Literally a town at the junction of two highways). The very best one is Punkin Center, named because the farmer there painted all their buildings pumpkin orange.
My answer to this, by the way, would be Tenochtitlan, though it's not a current name for a place. Largely for the not-too-interesting reason that I just really like how Nahuatl sounds, it's a very good language
