when did computers settle on the "tower" form factor? i know that even into the 90s there were computers that lay flat and that you'd put the monitor on top of the computer (cases were designed to be able to hold the heavy weight of a CRT monitor, too); when did they start being primarily upright?
@BatElite yeah crts stayed relevant into the 00s
@Felthry Those still exist, even, but they are pretty much only for workplaces running office software and not much else
@connie I think we're now pretty definitely in the "mostly upright towers" era of computing though
@Felthry I guess once non-CRT monitors became dominant and it became sensible to move the computer off the desk? Because it can't piggyback off the CRT having a large footprint anyway. :P
Like, maybe CRTs weren't popular into the 90's anymore (I don't actually know but I'm guessing they stayed relevant until the early 2000's) but you could still use an old monitor with your new system.
