Tell me about your favorite metroidvania games! Whether it's an obscure indie game or one of the classic Metroid or Castlevania entries, I'd like to hear which ones are highly regarded.
Some of my favorites:
• Guacamelee has a wonderful sense of style and humor. It gets pretty difficult by the end, but it's a fun challenge.
• Ori and the Blind Forest is gorgeous, especially the Definitive Edition.
• Axiom Verge was the work of a single person and is a wonderful update of the Super Metroid sort of game feel, but with a setting and story all its own.
@Felthry Bearing in mind that, like, we've actually played none of these, just watched others playing them... Super Metroid is still pretty good, and of newer games, Axiom Verge comes to mind as being quite good?
@Felthry Augh, accidentally deleted my draft. Guacamelee seems maybe okay from what we've seen, but it wasn't enough to really pass judgement. Then there's some games we've been trying to avoid seeing, to experience them for the first time playing them, like Ori and the Blind Forest (and kinda Hollow Knight except I feel like we saw a speedrun and stuff oops).
@Felthry Arkham Asylum is an excellent 3d one.
@Felthry y'know I actually heard one person pitch Outer Wilds as "a 3-d metroidvania where the only thing you gain is player knowledge".
