doing setup stuff for this stream i'm probably doing later and apparently mGBA is a very bad emulator since it can barely manage 50 fps on a ryzen 2200 + GTX 1060-6
beetle gba seems to work though
and i mean the ryzen 2200 isn't exactly a top of the range processor but the gba runs on an ARM7 so i think it's several orders of magnitude superior, plus there's the gpu there too doing whatever it does
it's like hyperdrives in the star wars universe, no one knows how they work but they make ftl work
(star wars canon is that the hyperdrive designs were inherited from a super-ancient alien species and no one knows how they work, but they have the plans so they can make more and make limited modifications/repairs)

no one knows what gpus do, you just plug them in and they make graphics work
