I wonder, what would be a good material for electrical data cables that aren't required to transfer any significant amount of power, if copper was too expensive to use?

aluminum would be the obvious choice, I suppose, but if the cable doesn't have to have significant current it may be possible to go cheaper

USB cables that use copper or aluminum for the power lines and something like maybe even steel for the data lines? i wonder hwo that'd work
