i wonder how many retro style games could have a reasonable facsimile made of them on an 8-bit console (NES, Sega Master System, PC-88, MSX, etc)

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon: Probably? need to change aspect ratio though
Mega Man 9/10: almost certainly with minor changes
Mega Man α (minigame in ZX advent): maybe
Tiger, Tiger (minigame in Xenoblade 2): Almost certainly
VVVVVV: probably, yeah

as for 16-bit style games being ported reasonably well to the SNES or Sega Genesis/MegaDrive or Turbografx-16 or I *guess* we can count the Neo Geo...

Shovel Knight: Maybe? I feel like some major changes would be needed
Octopath Traveller: haha no
Rivals of Aether: actually probably could
Axiom Verge: would require major changes to the graphics and probably removal of some powerups but I think you could do a fair approximation

@Felthry someone already ported Cave Story to the Genesis, soooooo

@Felthry yachtclubgames.com/2014/07/bre Interesting article from the creators of Shovel Knight on what did they take from the NES and on what did they break apart.

My take on these (1)

@Felthry
Bloodstained: More apt for the SNES than the NES, since it goes beyond what the NES could do in a lot of aspects (parallax [heck, even the Genesis has less planes than the game has], colour palettes used, big sprites, big particles). Did you know that the SNES has a 4 plane mode? And it even comes with the 3 colours + transparent restriction for the planes! (wierd)

My take on these (2)

@Felthry
Megaman 9/10: Some changes need to be made or else helluva sprite flicker everywhere. Though the last boss of Megaman 10 might need some drastic changes as the missiles it launches easily put a stress on the NES's sprite limit and possibly cannot be done on the background either (at some point, he launches multiple missiles, which drawing them in software and then sending them to the CHR RAM will stress all the NES CPU)

My take on these (2½)

@Felthry (Unless we are talking about using some sort of super advanced mapper).

My take on these (3)

@Felthry Mega Man α (minigame in ZX advent): Due to the colours, the fact a single big sprite is present there, and the awkard scrolling makes me resemble more of the PC Engine/Turbografx 16 or the Commodore Amiga.

My take on these (3½)

@Felthry Though any graphical changes won't affect the gameplay, so going all NES is right. Only that it would look very different.
