re: ableism

@IceWolf this particular thing was prompted by a speedrunner i was watching do the "reee" meme, which has its roots in mocking nonverbal autistic people--and as an autistic people we do not appreciate that at all

re: ableism

@Felthry There's a "reee" meme? *perks ears*

re: ableism

@IceWolf I'm not going to go into any further detail as even seeing it mentioned stresses us, sorry

re: ableism

@Felthry No worries at all. Sorry for asking you to explain it. :teal_heart:

re: ableism

@IceWolf what questions do you have on the matter? i may be able to answer them.

re: ableism

@windyorigami *perks ears* Thanks!

The only real question I have at the moment is, I've never heard of this meme at all so I don't know what it's like. :3

re: ableism

@IceWolf likely origin point is the accursed imageboard known as 4ch/an. apparently there's a stereotype that autistic folks produce some sort of unique "screech" when under duress. that place being that place, it was quickly used as a way to mock any sort of action deemed "uncool" or something to that sort, regardless of the target's cognitive architecture, deeming them as inferior to their peers, or something to that effect. over time, it percolated across the internet, and well, here we are. i hope this helps.
