honestly it should just be standard protocol to ask permission to follow someone with a message rather than just clicking the follow button, especially if they're on a locked account

@Felthry I disagree. I very much prefer not having to specifically have a "please don't DM me out of nowhere" on my profile.
@terrana I suppose it's either that or having to say "please don't send a follow request out of nowhere". Not sure how to not have to do either.

plus there's a bunch of people (like ourselves) who approve followers mainly to keep bots out. Having a DM crop up every time someone wants to follow us seems like a good way to eat a bunch of spoons tbh. Not that we think it's *Wrong* or don't understand the other viewpoint just... blegh. There's no way to put this default that isn't gonna hurt someone.
like, even if they don't say to, that should be the default assumption unless the profile says something to the contrary
