honestly it should just be standard protocol to ask permission to follow someone with a message rather than just clicking the follow button, especially if they're on a locked account

like, even if they don't say to, that should be the default assumption unless the profile says something to the contrary

@Felthry I disagree. I very much prefer not having to specifically have a "please don't DM me out of nowhere" on my profile.

@terrana I suppose it's either that or having to say "please don't send a follow request out of nowhere". Not sure how to not have to do either.

@Felthry @terrana I know personally I much prefer follow-request-out-of-nowhere; DMs I feel like I can't say no to.

@IceWolf @terrana @nautilee All valid points. I suppose I did the thing again, of assuming that our use case is going to cover all use cases. Which is obviously wrong, but somehow we keep doing it and sticking our foot in our mouth. And we have a lot of feet and mouths.

@Felthry @terrana @nautilee *grins and touches all your noses in succession* I tend to do that too. No worries. (:

@IceWolf @Felthry @terrana

We know you don't do it out of malice, it's a very forgivable mistake and one we make ourselves.

@Felthry @IceWolf @nautilee Well, there's a reason I said "I disagree" and not "I think that's wrong."
