random thought: has there ever been a non-bootleg instance of a game being released on one console, and then a sequel to the game being released on an *older* console and *not* the same one as the first game? like previous generation, not just "competitor that came out a day earlier"

@Felthry There's Rodea The Sky Soldier, where the Wii U version came with a Wii version packed in the box! I'm not sure if it counts because it's the same game, though.

It's kinda like a Twilight Princess situation, the Wii version was basically done, except then they were told "nope we also have a 3DS version, and now you're making it for the Wii U instead of the Wii" and for some reason the Wii U one is based on the 3DS one so it's not as good as the original Wii one.

@Felthry I don't know game releases well but I would check into Just Dance-style games as being likely to technically meet your criteria. I know they were being released for Wii until very recently and possibly still are, for example.

I say 'technically' because I'm not sure that 'sequel' is quite the right way to describe the relationship between, like, the 2017 and 2018 editions of the game.
