Honestly when I think about it, it is true that the concept of not owning certain things scares me, but digging a little deeper I don't think it has anything to do with private property. I'm scared of losing reliable access to them. If that stuff was community managed I certainly wouldn't mind not owning it if the community could reliably provide it

In some cases, like with say, bikes, it would be even better to be honest. As a bike owner I'm responsible for maintaining it but I have NO clue how to repair a bike

@socks I would think a bike is more personal property than private property?

@socks though we don't fully understand what the exact divide is between those (private property is more about private ownership of infrastructure and means-of-production stuff, personal property is most of the stuff that the average person would own like clothes and furniture and books and games and stuff)

@Felthry @socks i think the distinction is confusing because property isn't a very good framework for understanding the relationships between people and things, as emil's posts allude to

like if someone takes your bike without asking and you can't replace it, that sucks of them. if you spend time building a nice chair for your friend and then someone else takes it without asking, that also sucks of them. they don't necessarily suck for the same reason, though

@autumnontape @socks the distinction is especially confusing because "private" and "personal" are synonyms most of the time
