plurality, long

Being composite really explains so much about me.

I was talking to a friend earlier, and I noticed there was something odd I was doing. Every two or three lines, I'd respond to something they said twice. Once with an actual response, and then with... kind of a response to what I'd just said, with extra sarcasm.

For example:
Them: "The assignment was about a simple arithmetic parser."
Me: "Shouldn't be too hard for you, considering you've written your own compiler."
Also Me: "Hah. Maybe you could submit that."

I noticed I was doing this, and it occurred to me that this is not actually unusual for me at all. If you talk to me frequently, you've almost certainly seen me doing it.

So I did a quick "where did that come from" poll like I recently learned to. Sure enough, most of my side of the conversation was being supplied by Synth, but Wolf kept dropping in with sarcastic comments.

After noticing this, I started chattering to that friend about it, and both Wolf and Synth immediately got annoyed at Dragon for derailing a conversation they were enjoying.

This is an extremely weird sensation. Because these aspects of me aren't really separate, I'm consciously aware of all three viewpoints, /and/ the other two that are laughing at it.

And none of this is new! I've done this for years! It just... makes more sense now.

@terrana This sort of experience of "none of this is new but it makes so much sense now" is a really common thing among plural folks, I think!

@Felthry A friend of mine observed that there is a lot of overlap between the plural, trans, chronically ill, disabled, and trauma survivor communities. I think that phrase would be very familiar to all of those people.

@terrana It makes sense, yeah. Any kind of thing that isn't the norm, learning that it isn't the norm would elicit such a reaction.
