@sharkNserg Undertale does that, sort of
-F
@sharkNserg Wild Arms 3 actually had to go out of its way to *avoid* this, weirdly enough
-F
@Felthry whaaaa how so?
@sharkNserg oh I guess any game with multiple save slots and unlockable hard mode/ng+/whatever would also technically count
-F
@Felthry is there any mechanical interaction with the ghosts? 👀
@sharkNserg they attack you, if you beat them you get a piece of equipment that that character had on them when they died
-F
@Felthry this is very similar to, of all things, ZombiU. Every time you die in that game, the character you died as is permanently dead, and you resume gameplay as a different random person. And the previous character is a zombie in the location they died at that you can kill/loot!
@sharkNserg I feel like that is a mechanic zombiu probably took from roguelikes in general, because I know nethack isn't the only one that does that--I think angband has a similar system
-F
@sharkNserg in the case of nethack at least, it's rather uncommon that you find ghosts, they don't always spawn. if they did it'd probably become impossible to get past the first floor after a few particularly unlucky runs...
-F
@sharkNserg I like the idea of a game where you can see all your other characters just chilling at the save points they last saved at, though
-F
@sharkNserg oh!! nethack!! it only has one save slot, but it's possible to encounter ghosts of previous runs on the floors they died on
