I want magic systems that are weirder than ranged attacks with glowy effects

@fluxom_alt gonna gush about Sousou no Frieren here:
* large number of single-purpose spells (e. g. "bird capturing magic" "flowerbed growing magic")

* an ancient demon possessed "soul-destroying magic", an unblockable instadeath cheat mode ranged attack

* demon was (barely) sealed by the hero party; elven mage comes back decades later to finish it off, makes her apprentice solo the demon.

* apprentice wins easily, is confused that the legendary demon only used the most basic attack spell.

@Felthry @fluxom_alt mangadex.org/title/b0b721ff-c3

"Elf mage Frieren and her courageous fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. With the great struggle over, they all go their separate ways to live a quiet life. But as an elf, Frieren, nearly immortal, will long outlive the rest of her former party…"

(Title is ~"Frieren's Funeral(s)"; grammatically ambiguous if they're funerals for her, attended by her, or caused by her.)

@lioness our browser refuses to open that link due to it having an invalid certificate

it sounds interesting and i am wondering just how much of a spoiler your last couple posts were...

@Felthry it opens in (mobile) firefox + a chromium for me?

spoilers for precisely one chapter. there are some arcs (I really enjoyed the obligatory "first class mage exam" tournament arc), but besides that most chapters are episodic; they go somewhere new and never come back.
