Cloning pokémons in Crystal is a bit scary
In G/S, you have plenty of time to create a clone, and it will come out nicely. No problem here.
However, in Crystal, the timing is different and is also super precise. In the sense that “it could be really easy to create a bad clone”.
Some are more stable than others, I landed one last night and it was fortunately just a little broken name-wise and was easy to release without an issue.
But from what I’m aware, you can get one that can mess your save file. As in “can’t open your box containing the clones anymore”
While there is a way to recover from this (thanks Youtube comments), its still pretty scary.
Remember to clone in an empty box kids!
@Lugia we did the clone glitch a *ton* as a kid, i forgot about that entirely

@Felthry cloning glitches are pretty fun in GS! But in C, its really only if you need to. I don’t meddle in cloning often, this is really just out of necessity ^^’ Thought I did clone in Silver a bit to get a 2nd Lugia for my team!
Also I might clone a bit to generate myself a Celebi to have a fulldex eventually (i don’t wanna do coin case ACE since it can get expensive on the wallet and requires a specific bag setup to do it)… i’ll do that at some point •3•
@Lugia We only ever played crystal and i don't think we ever had any trouble with it, maybe we just got good at the timing?

@Lugia Since it depends on the timing of the save function I would think the hardware would affect things, but also the hardware that the gba uses for playing gbc games is very similar to the gbc (it basically has a gameboy color inside it, it's not emulated on the ARM processor)

@Felthry I can always try. I’m having difficulties cloning with my GBA, so if I still have difficulties on the GBC, then this can give us a hint on if the hardware affects cloning timing. Thought I would lean into the “no this doesn’t change anything”, i’m going to try just to be safe and get an accurate answer!
