I usually use more than the package directions say anyway but still, this is very unhelpful

Okay correction, "spoonful," not tablespoon

I don't know how much that is but I guess we're gonna find out

Also right above the directions is a box saying "dessicant, do not eat"
I had to go desperately searching for a silica pack to make sure it wasn't just scattered in the powder
