Chili:

@starkatt I was going to say it could have been just tofu or something but then I realized that tofu is also beans.
-F

@Felthry @starkatt you can eat soy in five different ways simultaneously

no idea why this comes to mind as so critical to express but it's important

@lorxus @starkatt edamame and tofu with soy sauce comes to mind immediately but what would the other two ways be?
-F

@Felthry @starkatt fry the tofu in soybean oil and serve it with some doenjang, too

@lorxus @Felthry @starkatt would it be six if you swapped the tofu for tempeh and just had a glass of soy milk to drink?

@Felthry @starkatt Jackfruit makes a pretty good vegetarian substitute for pulled pork. Had some as “carne” asada, recently. (Supply something else as a source of umami; it’s a flavor sponge.)

@Felthry Either/or. Chili peppers are necessary and sufficient, beans are neither but not disqualifying. Whether beans are a good idea depends on the rest of the recipe.

@Felthry honestly, our chili opinions boil down to "if you make a proteinaceous stew with chili peppers, it's chili"

we use beans because they're tasty and cheap

@packbat i'm asking more which way you prefer it rather than whether you call it chili or not
-F

@Felthry *nods*

right, yeah - we just kind of got thinking about it and went off on a tangent, sorry

we do generally like beans in our chili, whether or not it's a meat chili
